Feedburner PRO Goes Free

feedburner.gifFeedBurner have today announced that two of their PRO features are now free and are available to all FeedBurner Publishers. This is their first major change after their recent acquisition by Google. Thats one thing that i like about google a lot. Two of Feedburner’s services viz. TotalStats and MyBrand will be free for everyone.

FeedBurner Stats PRO

PRO is feed analytics taken to the next level. You will now have access to the number of people who have viewed or clicked individual content items in your feed and “Reach,” which estimates the daily number of subscribers who interacted with your feed content. You can turn this on by signing in to your account, navigating to the Analyze tab and heading to the FeedBurner Stats PRO section. Click the “Item Views” checkbox to activate these PRO features.

MyBrand

The MyBrand service (also PRO-level) is located under the “My Account” tab after you’ve signed in. MyBrand lets you maintain consistency between your feed address and your hosted website’s domain, if matchy-matchy is your thing. For example, rather than using feeds.feedburner.com/MyFeedName, your MyBrand-ed feed address can be feeds.myexcellentdomain.net/MyFeedName. To get started with MyBrand, sign into FeedBurner, click the “My Account” link in the upper left-hand corner, and then click “MyBrand”. Nota Bene: You must be comfortable playing around with DNS entries and own the rights to the domain whose DNS entries you’ll be playing around with in order to successfully activate MyBrand.

Pownce – Kevin Rose’s Start up

pownce.jpgFew days ago, it was rumored that Digg’s Kevin Rose has been working on a new startup. And now it here. It is called Pownce. The founding team of the company also includes Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, and Shawn Allen. Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.

Kevin made the public announcement on his blog today. Its still in private beta. However, they have have a way to request invitations and i have requested one. Hope i get it soon.

Right now, there are four basic things you can send: messages, links, files, and events.

You might send an event out to a dozen of your friends letting them know you’re hosting a party this Friday. They could easily get the event details you entered, respond with questions or comments and then quickly rsvp.

Say you had a great photo you wanted to share with all of your friends. Just add the file and all of your friends will get it right away. They’ll be able to reply and tell you if it’s cool. You could even post songs you recorded in your home studio to share with your friends.

Guy Kawasaki’s Truemor was talked all over the web. But it turned out to be a failure. Now Pownce is being talked all over the web since Kevin is behind it. Hope this doesn’t end up with the same story as Truemor.

My New Podcast

feed2podcast.jpgSomething inside my mind told me today to use some Blog Post to Speech application and publish a podcast. I didn’t know what to do. I did a google search and found out Odiogo. I signed-up for their service, but they had to approve me before i can use their site. I left them and found Talkr. That was somewhat better than Odiogo. My account was instantly activated and i added my blog. Their wordpress plugin led me to a 404 Not Found page. Then i managed to find the links to the .MP3 files. I had to download them. But they worked pretty nice, but with some flaws.

After these, i discovered this extremely simple website. Feed2Podcast. I was really amazed at their simplicity. I entered my feed address in their text box and hit “Go”. My Podcast widget was created immediately. I have it now on this site, here. Also they provided me an online link, where people can hear to the podcasts. Podcasts are pretty new to me. But these look good. Hmm..

DesktopTwo – The webOS

desktoptwo.jpgThere are quite a lot of WebOS available. But DesktopTwo is surely the best and the most powerful that i have seen. When using DesktopTwo, i feel like working on my own Windows. The interface is so cool. The desktop has draggable icons and also provides contextual menu items for certain right-clicks.

The provide 1GB of free space (hard disk :p) and provide a number of cool application which include Email, Address book, RSS Reader, Calendar, Blog, Message board, Open Office, Notepad, IM, MP3 player and more..

The windows are draggable as well and the whole interface resembles windows as mush as possible. Check out a snap of my beautiful desktop :

GabCast – Do more with your phone

gabcast.gifUsually i come to know about new websites (about which i have been posting) from related website. But the story behind me finding GabCast is a pretty interesting one. I was googling for a Web 2.0 generator and i found this one. I was generating some names and once i got “gabcast”. I liked the name, so i typed www.gabcast.com into my addressbar to find this nice website.

Let us come back to the topic.

Gabcast.com is a podcasting and audioblogging platform that offers virtual communities, individuals and organizations an easy way to create and distribute audio content.

The main actions that you can perform using GabCast are :

  1. Record using your phone or VoIP
  2. Create podcasts
  3. Post audio to your blogs
  4. Create audio greetings
  5. Host conference calls

It doesn’t stop here. There are lots more that you can do. Check out their overview page for more details.

Posting audio is a pretty new feature for the blogosphere. They provide 3 plans. The basic plan is obviously a free one and the other 2 don’t cost much too. They are $6/mo and $12/mo respectively.

Today’s newbie is a tomorrow’s must-have. GabCast is one such product and i wish it all the best.
