Taste WordPress 2.7, Get Used To It

The entire blogosphere is talking about WordPress 2.7. Every day I see one blog or the other posting about WordPress 2.7. Now, today its release candidate 2 has been released. The total hype is about the very much redesigned Dashboard. With the vertical navigation, dashboard widgets etc. it is going to be notably different from the current versions. It does take some time to get used to it.

Most of you will not be upgrading your blog until the stable version is released. (yeah, me too). You don’t want to be stranded when you upgrade. So, it is nice to try it out before hand. Now that all WordPress.com blogs have been upgraded, you can try it out for free over there. Thats what I’m doing now. Getting used to WP 2.7. What about you ? Have you already tried WP 2.7 ?

I have been using 2.7 beta for a few weeks now on several blogs. It looks radically different but the number of clicks to get to a specific menu are reduced a lot.

I really like it. Great step forward. Though to be honest it seems more like WordPress 3.0 as it is so different to 2.6 but Matt Mullenweg wanted to keep this cycle continue.

Yeah, it has got a lot lot better..

Personally i did not install the beta on this blog because of unwanted repetitive upgrades. Like, I know i’ll be installing 2.7 final. So, why bother with the intermediate betas and RCs ?

Havent got a chance to try it, but heard that there quite alot of changes, and those a postive changes, and its totally different to 2.6, hope every update can be like that.

You mean, every update to be totally different from the previous version ? That would kill the usability..

WordPress is a fantastic platform for getting once ideas out there. I am especially impressed with all the available plugins and themes. It really makes setting up a really nice site relatively quick and easy compared to some other platforms or just straight html.

I like WP 2.7, it is taking some time for me to get used to the admin area since things have moved in there as compared to the version I was running. I will like it though was I do get used to it.

I like the new navigation layout in 2.7, I dont think I will be taking the time to upgrade all of my blogs though, just the few that I have just started are using the latest version, plus I am an idiot when it comes to technical (for me) upgrades like this.

I really like the new look of WordPress 2.7 but I am a little concerned about the functionality aspect when you consider all plugins that might have trouble with the latest upgrade.

For me, one of the things that Im not completely happy with is the fact that it seems to load slowly. I don’t think it is my computer because I have older blogs with 2.6 versions and they load fine. I do like the ease in creating posts though! So far no problems with plugins…

I have not upgraded nor tried wp 2.7 yet. Can you post your experiences with it good or bad. I’m dreading making the switch and don’t want to until the bugs are worked out.

@Jeremy,
Actually 2.7 has lesser bugs. So you can try it out without any fear. I haven’t upgraded yet. But, thats laziness :P

While it is radically different I think that looking back in 6 months we’ll be wondering what we ever did without it.

I for one just love it.

When I use fantasticos for installing a new site, it defaults to 2.7. When I saw this, I was confused for a while, but then I figured it out! Lots of stuff on the dashboard! Matt

Is there any new security updates in 2.7? I used 2.6 untill I was totally hacked. It turned out to be a fatal security hole on my entire server. They got access to the entire server. Blogging is fun and effective, but it will take a while until I start blogging again after the last days.

Petter are you saying that wordpress 2.6 gave you a security flaw that allowed your server to be hacked?

I don’t believe there has really been any MAJOR security upgrades or fixes since 2.5.1. Since then they have been minor issues.

No, I think it was my own fault. Didn’t secure some important files, so I have to take the blame. But it was a big wake up call for me.

I am still using the older version. I am kind of scared to upgrade to 2.7 because I am afraid this would break the site.

Any one has experience in upgrading from an existing blog to the 2.7?

No problems what so ever upgrading to 2.7 for me. I always upgrade, but usually I stay off the beta’s.

I really like Gmail. With all the Ajax interface and added features it stands out in the crowd. Most of my emails comes to my Yahoo account because this is the one I had for a long time. Now I am using more and more Gmail. To move from old email to the new email takes time.

What are you talking about? Gmail? :S

Hi On demand movies,

Hi, that was by mistake. I had two windows open. I thought I was commenting on the another post regardig Gmail, but once it was done there was no way I could take it back.

I have never tried wordpress? Are they good for blogs?

WordPress is a very good tools for blog, many bloggers use it because it’s easy and attractive ! Test it you will love it !

I really dont like the new setup for version 2.7. It may just be that im used to the old version but for now Im sticking with 2.6
