Although it would be nice to have 100s of 'real', 100 comments for $20 sounds pretty good to me!

Sometimes I see people on various forums providing commenting services, but the fact remains: loyal readers rock!

I was going to buy some comment's, however after reading this blog I decided not to do that. It is better to build your business on a solid base instead of a lot of hot air!

I agree that to new bloggers they will want and will not mind the comments as long as it looks legit, but the author behind it will be losing their brand

the comment that the “so called author” of the blog is leaving a comment will contradict their blog

the comment that the "so called author" of the blog is leaving a comment will contradict their blog

for example: if the comment comes off sarcastic yet the authors blog is laid back - I think a reader would definitely see the difference

I’ve never understood the point of comment spam, at least as far as SEO goes. Google basically ignores links on pages that are below about PR4, so a comment on a typical blog post is worthless in terms of draining PR juice from a site.

In contrast, multiple comments on a site like Sciencebase.com that runs the Top Commentators Plugin will allow a dedicated commenter to get their link right on to the blog homepage (which is a PR7). Now, if you were unethical that plugin would be the way to go to game sites like that.

Of course, Akismet and a wary and sharp-eyed moderator will see right through the cr*p-flood, anyway.
